PREMIERE Fourteen, Frets & Faith
Bigscreen Cinemas Hervey Bay
1st September 2010

On Wednesday night the cast and crew walked down the red carpet at Bigscreen Cinemas Hervey Bay for the Premiere of their short film 'Fourteen, Frets & Faith'. Four hundred and fifty guests attended the fours screenings to help this amazing group of youth celebrate two and a half years hard work.
BACKGROUND
The initial idea was to produce a School Movie instead of the traditional School Musical. We wanted to try something new and more challenging than we had done in the past. With a small, enthusiastic group of students and teachers on board the idea quickly grew to a Community Movie Project and $50 000 worth of funding was sourced to bring Australia's leading Film, Media and Music professionals to the Bay to share with youth their knowledge, skills and industry experiences. Some of the well known names involved in this project include Troy Cassar-Daley, Garry McDonald & John Foreman.
It was important from the beginning that all facets of the project be real learning experiences for youth and as a result the timeline drifted out to two and a half years. I initially thought that we would require senior students to successfully complete the film, but I was wrong. The production team were mostly in grade 8 when they signed on and the average age at the completion of the film is 15. Approximately 300 youth participated in workshops and different phases of production with a core group following the whole project through from start to end.
VISUAL ART EXCURSION 2010
Over an inspirational 3 day Visual Art camp Year 10, 11 & 12 students were consumed by cultural, conceptual and contemporary Art of all forms. We embarked on journeys through various exhibitions and gallery spaces, including the 6th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT6) held at the Gallery of Modern Art. The students were presented with insights into possible creative industry career options and received tours around on of the most prestigious Fine Art Universities. A personalised and intimate workshop with renowned Brisbane contemporary Artist, Simon Degrot, who assisted in encouraging the students within their own creative practice. Overall an absolutely outstanding trip away with an amazing group of students and teachers. A big Thank-you to everyone involved in the Visual Art Camp.
